Travel highlights and activities in the Ahr valley

The Ahr valley is the perfect region for long walks and cycle tours, eating out and savouring delicious wines, health and fitness activities, the arts or simply for getting away from it all.

Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler

The walled mediaeval town of Ahrweiler is now joined with Bad Neuenahr who's warm, carbonated springs were discovered in 1854. Therefore Bad Neuenahr is a popular spa resort: the Ahr-Thermen thermal bathing complex, the spa gardens and the “Symphony for the Senses” health and fitness centre all offer pampering for body and soul.
Make sure to visit the Roman Villa: In 1980 a chance discovery at the foot of Silberberg hill on the western edge of Ahrweiler led to the excavation of a 2nd or 3rd century Roman villa with a large bath. Visitors can now walk inside the remains of Roman rooms and absorb a sense of the Roman lifestyle, bringing the past to life beside the river Ahr.

Wine villages

Altenahr, Mayschoss, Rech, Dernau and Walporzheim are idyllically set on the river Ahr, Germany's northernmost river where red wine grapes are grown. These friendly, picturesque villages are set against magical river scenery and have lots of interesting architectural features, for instance the oldest surviving Ahr bridge in Rech. At Mayschoß, the world's oldest wine cooperative is the perfect place for a wine tasting.

Wellness in the Ahr valley

The Ahr-Thermen are one of Germany's most beautiful thermal bathing complexes. First-class health and well-being treatments are on offer at the “Symphony for the Senses” fitness centre. Local hotels also have exclusive wellness facilities that are guaranteed to relax and revitalise, whether in historical or modern surroundings.
