Hiking in the Lahn valley

The Lahnwanderweg Trail leads high above the river Lahn from its source at Lahnhof to Lahnstein where the Lahn meets the Rhine. From elevated vantage points on rocky outcrops, you can look across the Lahn valley and Westerwald forest to the Taunus hills. While hiking this premium trail you can also stop off at historical towns, mighty castles or tranquil vineyards. Prepare to be surprised!

A portrait of the Lahnwanderweg Trail

The Lahnwanderweg trail runs for 290 kilometres over 19 sections from its source to Lahnstein, where the Lahn meets the Rhine. Waymarked with the 'LW' logo, the trail follows the Lahn river, sometimes on the right bank, sometimes on the left, but mostly on high terrain so that you have exceptional views of the Lahn valley and the high plateaus of the Taunus and Westerwald hills. On some sections of the valley, an extraordinary sense of remoteness makes walking the Lahnwanderweg trail an unexpected pleasure, coupled with the breathtaking panoramic views from high vantage points. The excellent rail links in the valley also give you flexibility in organising your tour. And when you've used up all your provisions for the road, you can always stop at one of the numerous restaurants and inns along the way to enjoy regional specialities made from locally sourced produce.

Stages of the Lahnwanderweg trail

The Lahnwanderweg trail is divided into 19 sections. These can, of course, be further divided into shorter tours, especially given the good rail connections in the Lahn valley. Half-day tours are also possible, as the route passes through towns and villages in the valley.

For further information about the stages please visit the following webpage "Hiking on the Lahnwanderweg trail".

Short and circular hiking tours in the Lahn valley

Numerous short and circular hiking tours can be found in the Lahn valley and its adjoining hills and nature parks.
