Bingen am Rhein – the gateway to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Upper Middle Rhine Valley

There are places with a special charm all of their own, an indefinable magic. Bingen, at the confluence of the Rhine and the Nahe, looking across to the legendary Mouse Tower, is just such a place. People have always been fascinated by the town's setting, establishing trading routes on and alongside the river, and travelers from all over the world have spent time here.

It was here that the abbess Hildegard of Bingen built her monastery and recorded the visions that would make her famous. "Bingen is a friendly and beautiful town," said the French writer Victor Hugo on his trip to the Rhine in the 19th century. Today the riverside town has an attractive infrastructure bringing to life the heritage of 2000 years of history.

Spend time in an enchanted setting, see the "Rhine in Flames" and enjoy the longest wine festival on the Rhine – the Bingen Winzerfest. You can also try our exceptional wines at the birthplace of Eiswein and join in the celebrations at "Bingen swings", the international jazz festival! For the State Garden Show in 2008 the banks of the Rhine were transformed into one of the most stunning promenades in the Middle Rhine Valley, and today offer a multitude of scenic, horticultural, architectural and cultural attractions.

Come and visit us in Bingen am Rhein – we look forward to welcoming you!

Special tip from Patricia Neher (project manager "Bingen swings):

"Bingen swings": with a fruity glass of Riesling in your hand, wander from stage to stage listening to jazz greats, like Emil Mangelsdorff, Jasmin Tabatabai or Roger Cicero. With a little luck, you might bump into a 'celebrity' or other in the hotel bar at the end of the evening ...
