Travel highlights and activities in the Nahe valley

Plan your holiday in the Nahe valley with lots of time to relax and enjoy: A picnic in a vineyard, a massage at a spa, a glass of wine on the terrace of a winery in the shade of fruit-laden vines! Experience a world of sparkling gems, which have formed Idar-Oberstein and the renowned German Gemstone Route!

Nahe Wine Route

The Nahe Wine Route (Naheweinstraße) traces centuries-old links between traditional wine villages, some dating back over 1,000 years. This 130-kilometre car route tours the wines of the Nahe wine region. It passes three spa resorts, idyllic vineyards, inns and taverns selling home-produced wine. Don't miss the wonderful wine festivals along the Nahe Wine Route!

On tour through the gemstone region

Gemstones have been cut, polished and made into works of art along the German Gemstone Route for 500 years. Idar-Oberstein, Germany's "gemstone capital", presents the world of gemstones in a fascinating way. Idar-Oberstein and the surrounding area are brilliant places for excursions.
There are over 10,000 exhibits to admire - both cut stones and also crystals and raw stones - at the German Gemstone Museum. A tour of the Steinkaulenberg gemstone mine becomes an underground journey through an enchanting world of glittering treasures. In the historical Weiherschleife
cutting mill visitors discover how gem-cutters used to create sparkling jewels as if by magic, using just the power of water.
Modern processing methods are demonstrated in grinding shops and visitors can watch cutters and designers at work making amazing pieces of jewellery. Anyone interested can design their own jewellery, with professional guidance.

Wellness and Health Holidays

The three resorts of Bad Kreuznach, Bad Münster am Stein-Ebernburg and Bad Sobernheim guarantee a healthy and relaxing holiday in the Nahe region.

Bad Sobernheim
Medical wellness and the naturopath Felke come face to face in Bad Sobernheim on the Nahe. Pastor Emanuel Felke, the naturopath, uses the natural elements of light, air, water and earth. The precious clay he uses improves the skin's complexion as well as leaving its healing effect in the soul. The idyllic spa resort of Bad Sobernheim nestles amidst the sunny vineyards and wooded heights and pampers visitors magnificently with its many award-winning spa and wellness hotels.

Bad Kreuznach
This radon and saline spa is also a historical town with interesting sights in the old quarter such as Salzmarkt and Eiermarkt with the 700-year-old Church of St. Nicholas. The 15th-century bridge houses built on the pillars of the old Nahe bridge are well worth seeing.

Bad Münster am Stein-Ebernburg
A picturesque radon spa in a particularly delightful part of the Nahe region, set at the foot of the Rheingrafenstein rock (136m) and its 11th-century castle ruins. The Rotenfels (327m), which rises out of the Nahe valley and extends along the left river bank to Norheim, is the highest sheer rock face north of the Alps – a climbing and mountaineering paradise.

Barefoot Path: Wellness for your Feet

The 3.5 kilometre long Barefoot Path in Bad Sobernheim "helps you to find yourself" as it were: through puddles and mud, over different surfaces – from pebbles to bark mulch, over a suspension bridge and even through the River Nahe itself. The picturesque countryside along the River Nahe is just as much part of the health and wellness programme as the active exercise taken along the Barefoot Path itself.
