Wegelnburg castle ruin/D
Wegelnburg castle is the highest located castle ruin in the Palatinate region (572 m). On a clear day one can see Strasbourg Cathedral. The period of its edification is unknown, however the buildings and construction forms point to the first half of the 13th century. The elongated fortification stretched over three levels and was surrounded by an enceinte. Only the remains of the before mentioned enceinte have been preserved as well as the vestiges of gates, stairways and rock chambers.
