Roman Villa

In March 1980 a sensational find was made during the expansion of the B 267. During excavation work, the remains of the manor house of a Roman estate of the 2nd and 3rd centuries came to light. The excellently preserved walls with their colourful murals soon made it clear that this was a sensational find, unparalleled north of the Alps.

The excavations by the Koblenz state archaeologists took ten years. In addition to the wall paintings, a bathing facility, a kitchen and completely preserved underfloor heating were discovered. Countless everyday objects ranging from antique window glass, tableware, hairpins to a theatre mask were also found. The walk through the ruins of the ancient rooms gives a very detailed insight into provincial Roman life almost 2,000 years ago.
