Until the beginning of the 20th century raftsmen (Flößer) steered huge timber rafts down the river to the shipyards in Holland. These rafts were up to 220 m long and 60 m wide. The museum tells the story of the everyday life of the raftsmen and Rhine skippers. A collection of historical photographs, models, anchors, hooks and ropes gives visitors an impression of just how hard the raftsman’s life was.
