In the old part of Meisenheim an amazing lot of half-timbered, 16th-century buildings have been preserved and beautifully restored. In spite of Meisenheim´s eventful history, it is the only town in the Palatinate which hasn´t been destroyed by catastrophes or war. That´s why
Meisenheim has got the most picturesque historical town centre in the whole Naheland region.
The town is ideally located to explore the surrounding countryside by bike or foot, because there are several cycle tracks and footpaths which lead through shaded forests and over sunny hills where even orchids grow. The main cycle path, Glan-Blies Cycle Track, follows the rail trolley track for a long time, so it´s almost without any slope.
