The customs castle of the archbishops and Electoral prices of Mainz was built in 1298. The Gothic main tower, which is 28m high, also serves as a corner bulwark of the town fortification. The North Wing dates form the 14th century, the South Wing with the Gothic hall was built around 1498. The baroque central building was established in 1720 by the Electoral Prince Franz von Schönborn.
